I was very excited about this event when I first heard about this party, and honestly, secretly, I was really hoping, by some weird chance that it would be really weird and crazy like the Alien Jones Commercial… alas, it was far from it, but nonetheless, the event was great.
This is really an art gallery first and a shop and cafe second. When you enter, you can clearly see the homage to Murakami all over the place, which we totally dig. The decor is what one would expect from the Venice, Culver City area- spacious and relaxed, and in the middle of the gallery was this really weird room surrounded with mirrors on the outside, turned out to be a theater room on the inside, filled with a nice large screen projection and fancy chairs. The art collection was impressive and expensive. And having food and drinks served by the maids? Well, the pictures speak for themselves. There was glass protection all over the exhibits so it was hard to get a good picture without any reflection, (as you will notice,) but I think Matt and I did a pretty good job.
At the party we got a taste of the food, our verdict: Sagoii!!! Couldn’t stop eating the hors d’eurves, What is it about bite sized food? We had endless helpings to chocolates, rice crackers, California roll sandwiches, mini-creme brulees and Espresso Martinis- eating them reminded me of the fun days in Tokyo.
Royal/T is about Japanese Pop Art and an homage to “trend” in Tokyo’s Akihabra. So, we say to you, go check it out, see what it’s all about just for the experience; look around, shop, order some tastey food and tea while the cute maids serve you food, there really isn’t much more to it than that.
Oh, also, big big Thanks to Melissa G of For Your Art for helping us with our RSVP, we owe you.
