Earth Day- Car Free Day, Apr. 22nd

For some reason, all Eco-conscience events tend to be Hippie-esque, with the exception of Live Earth- which actually costs our environment more than it does to help. Here’s the way I look at it: Earth day is a day to reflect on how you can contribute to the health of our environment. It doesn’t have to be major, doesn’t have to be huge, but if you decide to make a conscience effort to change one part of your life to help, that alone is worth it- it is no different than saving up for that big vacation and knowing that every penny counts. It could be as simple as switching to a shopping bag instead of using paper or plastic each time you go to the market, maybe you choose to recycle all those beer bottles you have, or creating recycle bins at your office, perhaps you ride your bike or take public transportation to work, or maybe you join a charity or make a charitable donation to a foundation. Whatever you choose, when it becomes a habit and your way of life, then you can honestly look at the person next to you and say that you do it because you care. Believe me, when you choose to do it in one aspect of your life, you will find it easier and easier to continue to spread that ethic to the rest of your life and to those in your life.

Some say that “the world is your oyster,” obviously referring to the pearl in the oyster, and if this is so, perhaps we should start treating our world like it. Happy Earth Day to all.
