I know, I know, what a weird picture, what is the sumo doing to his… chest? Why is that the official image of the tournament? Why is my ex-gf super crazy? Just file them all under “things that we will never understand.” Sumo wrestling comes to Los Angeles, it’s a strange sport and I’ve never quite understood it, kind of like Cricket. Nonetheless, the videos on the official website make it look quite interesting and besides the fact that it is a historic sporting event with a great deal of influence to the Japanese culture, there is something fascinating about watching two individuals of massive weight collide into each other…. Yea? No? Maybe? Meh? Well then go ahead and file that one too with the rest of the “stuff you will never understand,” but before I end this post, I have a question: It says that there are 40 Mankunouchi (wrestlers) for this event. If the average Mankunouchi weighs, oh, roughly 300 pounds, how many airplanes does it take to ship 40 sumo wrestlers around the world on tour? Just curious.

There are 40 rikishi (wrestlers) in the Mankunouchi category — the highest ranked professionals. I can’t wait for this basho!
