This was really a great event. I would have totally posted my blog about this much earlier in the week but Matt took the pics and I was at his mercy… ahem, ahem, cube-e-crafting, pshh, whatever! This was an all day event but Matt had school related stuff to do in the afternoon and I was busy trying to get my “Red Tiger” on my .50 Barrett on Call of Duty 4- I was only 5 head shots away, so could you really blame me? Don’t answer that.
So, long story short, we didn’t leave for this until about 6pm and the event ended at 8pm so we were really pressing our luck. After getting through traffic, Matt and I agreed that we were
starving and could also really use some coffee as well, so, we stopped by Royal/T. And no, we didn’t stop by there just so that we could get served by a cute girl in a maids outfit, that wasn’t it at all, it’s just that it happened to be located at the very beginning of the Art Walk. After we had our coffee, it was 7:00pm- that meant only one hour and over 40 galleries to cover, over a 4-5 block radius. This was going to be fun.
It was really awesome to see that a city dedicated and organized an event in the name of art. Obviously it helps promote the uniqueness of Culver City, as well as brings business and attraction, but its the participation of the numerous art galleries and the great curating on the exhibits made this a really great event. You don’t technically need an event like this to check out the galleries of Culver City but it’s just much more enjoyable when you see many people out and about on a really nice Saturday afternoon doing it as well; plus, events like these give out tons of freebies- food, drinks, etc.. Normally I would name the places and the artist I really liked but honestly
there were eally good pieces everywhere we went. We didn’t get to every gallery but we did get to stop by a good amount of them and they were all worth it. I personally really wanted to stop by Blum & Poe’s to see the latest of Murakami’s Davey Jones inspired pieces but we just didn’t get there on time, but we did however, stop by Project: Gallery, just because they left us a comment. One love!
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, if you havn’t been to Culver City recently you really are missing out on it’s new development. Lots to do, lots to eat and lots to see.
