Anvil: The Story of Anvil

So, last night Michelle and I went to the screening of Anvil: The Story of Anvil as a part of the LA Film Festival at the Ford. I had heard that it was going to be some kind of real Spinal Tap-ish type of documentary about these old guys who had their 15 minutes of fame back in the 80s and then just never “made it” but were still trying. I was like, alright, I’ll go and check this out. WOW. This documentary was an emotional roller coaster. By the end of the screening I wanted Anvil to make it so bad it hurt. Besides being a witty and insightful documentary on the music industry, metal and “the Dream,” Anvil: The Story of Anvil was just an incredible look at the enduring friendship of two people (Lips and Rob of Anvil who met when they were 14 and have been friends ever since) and the love they share for each other as friends and the love they share for the passion of METAL. If you can, check out a screening. Directed by Sacha Gervasi, this is a gem that you seriously don’t want to miss. OH! And the best part about last night was when my face totally melted off when, after the credits rolled, ANVIL came out and actually played a set! Holy shit. It was super awesome. Check out the photos from last night here. Check out clips from the documentary, screenings and buy the 13th Anvil album here.
