Anime Expo 2008, July 3 - 6

When I was a young kid, my brother met a kid named Suichi who came from Japan and introduced us to Dragon Ball. At the time, Manga comics were only books and JUMPS, (TV shows were only in Japan.) Dragon Ball was ground breaking, I mean it was funny and comical but as the character grew older it became a drama, a storyline with incredible details and imagination. It was like crack, (click-click-patty-click pancakes!) I could not stop reading them. There was only one problem. My brother and I could not read japanese, but we knew how to get to Little Tokyo and find the shops that sold the books. So we continuously spent our allowance on books, looking them over and over, guessing where the storyline was going. Surprisingly enough, the details to the story were so thorough that one could have a pretty good idea, though not a thorough one, but a really good idea of what was going on. I know, this is getting quite long, but Anime has a huge part in my heart- Macross (robotech), Guyver, Akira, Cowboy Bebop (I’m a huge Shinichiro Watanabe fan), Gundam… the list goes on and on, and even to this day I am a fan of Bleach and Gundam 00.

It’s a 4 day event filled with Anime junkies, fans, artists, music and cosplayers (which, if that’s your thing, then that’s your thing.) And yes this is quite a geeky event, but nonetheless a fun one. Check Website for schedule of events.
