Went to the Opening Reception for a bit, looked around, and really liked what we saw. Sure we are Space Invaders fans and Giant Robot whores and slaves to Japanese Art Culture, but thats who we are. The pieces were not the most earth-shattering things you’ve ever seen, but the group show was well put together and the flow of it was very well done. And even though the show represented artists of different fields: Outsiders, Insiders and The Middles, the group show felt like one complete exhibit. You could go from one artist to the next without feeling such a rift between artists.
I personally really liked the Zaraganiworks pieces as well as the eight pieces of Adrian Johnson. We love robots, the portraits of the robots and the whole robot motif by Zaraganiworks was just a great reminder of all the cartoons I used to watch when I was a kid. Adrian Johnson on the other hand, provided a nice relief from all the Japanese motif on the other side of the Gallery
Jaime? Well, lets put it this way, within 5 minutes of stepping into a FREE event, she
managed to spend $75 on stuff. “Impulse buy?” Absolutely! But, I gotta say I fell for it too and ended up picking up a Mr. Greentea over here, made by Noriko Ashino. I mean, how can you say no to that? Who doesn’t like Green tea ice cream? So, yea, Jaime liked it a lot.
As for Space Invader, it was everything we talked about in the interview and thank g-d for that because without that, I would have probably looked at his “Q.R. Card” piece like, “huh? Really?” To put it lightly, sure, it’s an idea based off of an existing idea, but as a piece of art it’s ahead of it’s time, and all great artists are always ahead of their time, and thats why by the time we realize what they’re doing, we have to give them the respect for going in that direction that nobody else thought of in the first place.
So all in all, the latest Scion Space exhibit gets a great review from us and we encourage everybody to go check it out. Pictures on Flickr
